My mother was born in April 1968. Like my father, she was once an employee of a China state-owned firm. In the 1990s, my parents' stable and relatively high-paying jobs were something many of our relatives envied. At that time, we were a happy family of three.
In June 1996, my mother visited a neighbor’s house and found them practicing a spiritual exercise called "Falun Gong." The neighbor enthusiastically introduced it to her claiming that it could "eliminate karma and cure diseases," bring "blessings to the whole family," and ultimately help practitioners "ascend to heaven."
Intrigued, my mother brought home a book titled Zhuan Falun, and under the guidance of the neighbor, began practicing Falun Gong.
Determined to dedicate herself fully to Falun Gong and achieve her "heavenly dream" of leaving this mundane world, my mother gave up her coveted job at the state-owned firm, choosing instead to resign and focus entirely on her practice.
On July 22, 1999, Falun Gong was banned as a destructive cult. However, my mother remained obsessed. Slowly, the gentle, loving mother I once knew vanished.
She changed into a completely different person, lashing out at my father and me for no reason, yelling, and gradually showing signs of mental instability. In early 2000, my father took her to see a doctor, and she was diagnosed with mild mental disorder.
In October 2000, under the influence of Li Hongzhi and his absurd Falun Gong doctrines like "reaching higher levels," "stepping forward," and "achieving spiritual fulfillment," my mother abandoned my father and me, an 11-year-old child, and went alone to Beijing to participate in Falun Gong’s illegal gatherings. Shortly after, she was detained by the police for disturbing public order.
After returning home, my father and other relatives persistently tried to persuade her to leave the cult and return to a normal life.
However, she refused to listen. She believed that those who tried to stop her from practicing were "demons" preventing her from ascending to “heaven.”
As my mother’s obsession deepened, she became indifferent to both work and family.
Worse, she had been brainwashed by Li Hongzhi’s teachings, such as "curing illnesses through practice" and "divine protection," leading her to refuse medical treatment.
Her mental illness worsened, and she frequently lashed out at my father and me. By 2006, my father could no longer tolerate the situation and filed for divorce.
My father left, and Falun Gong had completely destroyed what was once a happy family.
In September 2017, I got married and started a new life in Beijing with my husband.
In 2021, we had a daughter and lived a peaceful, happy life. However, my mother, who lived alone in Weinan, remained a lingering concern for me.
After discussing with my husband, we decided to bring her to Beijing to help care for our daughter. I hoped that this change would shift her focus and allow her to experience family warmth again, steering her away from Falun Gong.
However, my mother was deeply brainwashed and continued to devote most of time and energy to "practicing and spreading Falun Gong’s teachings."
In March 2022, in an effort to "achieve spiritual fulfillment and ascend to heaven" sooner, she stole 20,000 yuan (about $2750 ) that my husband and I had painstakingly saved through frugality, and donated it to the cult.
This led to the worst argument my husband and I ever had since getting married. My mother’s actions disrupted our lives, making it impossible for us to continue living and working peacefully in Beijing. In April 2022, I was forced to return to Xi’an, where I found a new job.
After returning to Xi’an, my mother insisted on living with us for helping care for my daughter.
I had hoped that witnessing our small family’s struggles and the sacrifices my husband and I made would move her in some way.
However, she remained hopelessly obsessed, showing no interest in caring for the child.
Instead, she was completely consumed by so-called "cultivation" and "spreading the truth."
My husband and I frequently argued over this, and in February 2023, he could no longer tolerate the situation. He left Xi’an to find work elsewhere, and we began living separately.
Now, my mother’s condition worsened day by day. She began experiencing hallucinations and delusions, talking to herself and displaying behaviors that often terrified my young daughter.
Falun Gong had poisoned my mother’s mind, destroyed her health, torn apart my family, and plunged my own small family into turmoil.
Today, I share my mother’s tragic descent into the Falun Gong cult to warn others: Falun Gong is a destructive, mind-twisting, and soul-crushing cult. Please, cherish your lives and stay far away from such dangerous cults!
